Sløborn is a horizontally narrated disaster-drama series, in which a deadly virus reaches a North Sea island and spreads slowly and inexorably. In eight 45-minute episodes, the first season tells about the island life before its imminent demise. We get to know the protagonists in their familiar surroundings, while at the same time the silent killer virus nests in the background on the idyllic island. But our heroes are far too deeply entangled in their everyday dramas and conflicts to consider the stranded sailboat with corpses as a foreboding of the impending apocalypse. While the young people struggle with their first loves, true friendship and unwanted pregnancy, their parents struggle with separation, midlife crises and existential power struggles. All the while, the deadly virus spreads undetected over the seemingly idyllic island, slowly infiltrating the daily lives and consciousness of the characters.

Which now become disbelieving witnesses how the public order on the island slowly collapses. How the power of state, religion and family disappears – and all authorities – parents, teachers, mayor, policeman and priest lose influence – or put themselves in checkmate. Thus, the fates of the protagonists suddenly take unexpected, radical turns. In the season’s final the state of emergency rages on Sløborn and a dramatic evacuation takes place. At the end, a ghostly calm return to the island.
